Trampolines for sport or for leisure : how to make the right choice ?
In order to make the best choice, you should be asking yourself certain questions :
1) What space do you have available to set up your trampoline ?
The size of our trampolines varies from 1.80 to 5.00 m and they come in several shapes (round, octagonal, rectangular). For greater safety, it is essential to leave roughly 2 metres on all sides of your trampoline. Are you thinking of setting up your trampoline in the garden or in a sports hall ? For all limited spaces, either inside or outside, make your choice according to the size allowing for a clearance space on all sides.
In terms of height, remember that a young or adult athlete can jump several metres. Before installation, look at the space above to see what might interfere or injure the jumper and anticipate aclearance of 7 metres.
Consider setting up your trampoline in the garden, on grassy or sandy ground. If you need to place it on a solid surface, you should surround it with protective pads or equip the trampoline with a net. If you wish to bury the feet of the trampoline to reduce its height by half or completely, anticipate rainwater evacuation into a ditch.
2) Determine who will be using your trampoline.
Would you like to purchase a leisure trampoline ? Or is sport really the motivating factor ?
Selecting a small-sized trampoline for children may be a logical choice, if there are space and budgetary considerations. Nevertheless, don’t forget that your children will grow and the purchase of a smaller model may prove to be less adapted later on. What’s more, it would really be surprising if you weren’t also seduced by the temptation to share your children’s trampoline sensations. So, if you find yourself hesitating between several sizes, you should probably select the larger model. This is always the safer choice (the round 3m60 size model is well-suited to an adult).
Next, take into account the maximum admissible weight and compare it to the weight of the main users. If adults regularly jump, 100 kilos minimum is necesary and is supported by almost all of our lines. And if you are really not sure, call us and we will help you !
3) What should you consider when you make your purchase ?
It’s true that nothing resembles a trampoline more than a trampoline. It is difficult to distinguish differences and to make a choice. In catalogues and on the Internet, products are always described as « the most beautiful, the highest-performance, the safest, offering the best quality/price ratio. » It’s up to you to make up your own mind.
Here are two indications to help your make your decision :
- The price of the trampoline : often, price has a direct relation with the quality of the product and with the after sales service you should expect. Be careful with products described as the « top of the line » and which quickly reveal themselves to be « expendable » consumer goods, and which let you down after a few months of use, without being able to turn to an after sales service.
- The quality of materials : it isn’t because a product comes from Australia or the United States that it makes it better than a trampoline manufactured in France or China. The technique in itself is very simple, therefore quality comes above all from the choice of materials and a strict production line process. This is what determines performance and product longevity.
Given the time of average trampoline use, you should choose not only the right size, but also a quality product for long-lasting use and a high level of safety. It’s a matter of not making a mistake at the moment of purchasing your trampoline.
Look carefully at these following parts before you buy :
The steel frame :
Powerful and repeated stress brought on by jumps requires top quality steel, and properly dimensionned tubes (diameter and thickness). The minimal tube size/diameter of 35mm or 40mm and thickness of 1.5mm or 2mm are ideal to guarantee a strong trampoline that will be long-lasting. There will be no danger of bending, or of welding that gives in or cracks.
Do not worry about the weight of the equipment. It contributes to the stability of the equipment. The number of feet varies according to the model and the size from 3 to 8.
Protection against corrosion :
The frames and feet of our trampolines are hot-galvanized. This proven technique consists of plunging steel into a fusion zinc bath, it adds an extra layer of “zinc” inside and outside the tubes. This very thick layer provides total protection. With the same procedure, we manufacture structures for groups whose technical specifications are very demanding.
After the « zinc » procedure we move on to the perfection phase, a process of steel finishing. Still, this procedure is only valuable when galvanisation is performed AFTER manufacturing and not BEFORE. Indeed, if you rework the steel to pierce holes or weld to fit galvanised steel tubes, you will create weaknesses in precise spots where rust will quickly form.
How can you tell ? Simply by observing the welding for example and by locating differences in grey colour (matt tint of galva / shiny paint added after welding). Many trampolines are today manufactured according to this procedure because of costs, but they offer poor anti-corrosion protection.
The springs :
The minimum size of our springs is 180 mm and they can reach a length of 250mm. What determines the power of a spring is its coil diameter (minimum 2.8mm), the quality of the steel used, its spire diameter (from 25 to 30mm) and the tension of the coils. Its total length has no bearing on its strength, but it does influence how it lays.
A particular number of springs is required, determined by the size of the trampoline surface, without going over and placing too many, which could weigh down the trampoline surface and springs’ apparatus. What’s more, a surface that is stretched by too many springs would be uncomfortable, because it would be too hard and could cause physical problems, particularly back problems, in the case of improper use.
Our springs are protected against corrosion by the application of a layer of zinc or galvanisation in a fusion bath.
The jumping surface :
Manufactured in Polypropylene (made in the United States) or by Prestretched mesh (made in France), the jumping surface is specially designed to bear the weight of several hundreds of kilos on its own, thereby offering very high resistance.
The principle is to weave high resistance braids into very tight links, with material protected from UV rays and bad weather conditions by a specific type of coating. Most surfaces are reinforced on the edges by a full thickness surface reinforcement or by a strap with cross stitching on the springs, with all made in 8 rows of stitching done by a double-needled machine.
No matter what material it is made from, the jumping surface lets rain water flow off.
The protective pad :
Choice of several colours : Green is naturally a more discreet choice for a garden. Blue, red or yellow will enable the jumper to orient himself or herself better for the brief time he or she is in the air. This is why a vivid colour is used for sports and competitive trampolines.
Our PVC tarpaulin covers, with anti-UV treatment, are sewn around the cushion. The sewing allows for ventilation and is very easy to repair.
Our pads offer a thickness of 25 mm minimum and a density (35 kg/m3) specially designed to appropriately absorb somewhat hazardous contact ! Indeed, too high a density will not play the role of absorber (you may as well not even have a pad), and too low a density will not protect against a hard landing.
The cushion is a single block, whose cells are closed so as not to allow water absorption, avoiding therefore any dampening and any deterioration by frost. The pads are cut to perfectly cover the frame and the springs, overlaying the trampoline frame, the springs and part of the jumping surface. They are attached to the frame at a number of places by small elastics, in such a way as to allow for a certain clearance, thereby avoiding any ripping. The safety instructions are printed on models for home use.
4) Round, octagonal, rectangular trampolines ? Which one should you choose ?
Round models :
The round Jump’Up and Booster trampolines are most often destined for home and leisure use.
Children often prefer this shape as it is an fun, enjoyable and safe universe to play in, thanks to their large surface. Adults can also treat themselves to an easily accessible sport in their own garden.
For children, it is also a play space perfect for them to let their imagination run wild.

Don’t worry ! Before sending you off to fumble around on your own, here is a brief glimpse of the main accessories that you might need.
The ladder :
The ladder allows even small children to climb onto the trampoline, which can be 1m high. On the other hand, as it is mobile, you can take it off quickly so that these small children can not climb on without supervision.
Placed on the trampoline and resting on the ground, the ladder will eliminate the need for a chair or some other unstable means of access, which is often the cause of injury if it should be knocked over.
